Our Story
CAR IN JAPAN CO., LTD. was incorporated in Tokyo in 2013 by a team of automotive trade professionals who identified a clear gap in the global market: international buyers lacked a reliable, transparent route to Japan’s extraordinary inventory of certified vehicles.
Japan operates the world’s most rigorous vehicle inspection and maintenance culture. The Japanese Shaken (vehicle inspection) system ensures that every vehicle on Japan’s roads meets strict safety and emissions standards at regular intervals. This discipline produces a used-vehicle market of exceptional quality, where vehicles with 80,000 to 150,000 kilometres frequently outperform newer vehicles from markets with less demanding standards.
From our initial operations in Tokyo’s Chuo district, we built direct relationships with Japan’s leading auction houses, franchise dealers, and fleet disposal networks. These relationships give us access to the full spectrum of Japan’s vehicle inventory, from economy hatchbacks and commercial vans to luxury sedans and low-emission hybrids, before most of it reaches the open auction floor.
By 2018, CAR IN JAPAN CO., LTD. had established its first international dealer partnerships in East Africa and the Middle East. Today, we have exported 2.1 million+ vehicles to buyers in over 150 countries, supported by a global dealer network of 12,000+ authorized partners, a workforce of 1,300+ professionals, and 18 international business awards.
